Your true New York experience begins with the parking lot. Just do your best. Inside, there are two large food display counters in an L-shape, and behind them are a half dozen people working together as a blur of movement and chatter. They have the usual meats and cheeses, of course, but when you see the sides and sweets behind that glass, you'll begin to understand the hype. It's quality, up front and honest. The cheesecake and cannoli are heat and I'm picky about both. If you want to sit down and eat, pick a table at the attached restaurant and someone will get to you quick. It's always busy, but the servers here are pros. They're fun, personable, the kind of people that'll make you feel like you've always been friends. If they give you a little crap in the most playful of ways, they like you. They remembered my drink order on my 3rd visit. And the food. My god, the food. I have yet to find one thing here that isn't the result of quality ingredients, butter, and hands that know what they're doing in a kitchen. There's truly nothing bad on the menu. My wife and I were visiting drs and stopped here after first appointment. We were impressed by the breadth of the menu and made choices that were good. My wife had waffles and I had the grits bowl. Quantity of food was substantial and service was very fast. The grits bowl came with eggs, bacon, ham, cheese and sausage served with toast.

Have now been here twice in the last 6 months. Each time was underwhelmed. Nice people. Attentive service. But for a NY Deli, can't believe how bland the bread is. Had an Italian last time and a cheesesteak recently. Average at best. Little bag of lays chips as a side? Pic is all you need to see.

I've always wanted to try a authentic New York Deli. I think this is probably as close as I've ever been. I had a sandwich called The Godfather and it was very good. The price was affordable for Wilmington. And the service in the servers were amazing. We got to talking about the egg salad and she even came back with a sample for me to try. I enjoyed the place very much.

We hadn't been here in awhile, as it's not near where we are most of the time when we're ready for lunch, but we were immediately reminded why it's worth coming to, no matter how far away you are. The service is the absolute best. It feels like the employees are people you've known for a lifetime. They treat you like you're familiar to them, like family or friends. The food comes out quick and is so delicious. The menu choices are many and the variety of items ensures there is something for everyone. The dessert selection is extensive. The prices are reasonable. There's really nothing bad I can say about S&L except that it's difficult to find parking sometimes, but it's a testament to how great they are. It's always packed.
